How to Detect Location Tampering

I've received a notification from ClockShark about employee GPS locations that appear to have been tampered with using Mock Locations

Mock Locations are a hidden developer setting in the Android operating system that allows a device owner to set any GPS location for testing purposes. Employees may try to record false locations in ClockShark using any number of free apps that can be downloaded.

ClockShark can detect mock locations and will display a Location Tampering Detected alert on the employee’s timesheet. When you see this alert, the recorded location is not from the employee’s device but is a spoofed location.

Enable location tampering alerts

To enable an alert for location tampering:

  1. Go to Admin > Alerts and Reminders.
  2. Under Location and Identification, select Location Tampering.
  3. Click Save.
