Using Time Rounding

The time rounding feature in ClockShark allows you to display and report on recorded times

You can turn the time rounding feature on or off from your Company Settings screen, located under the Admin > Settings menu.

You can choose to round time to the nearest five minutes, fifteen minutes, or not round time at all.

Note: the start time and the end time are rounded. Let's use the example of having the feature turned on and set to the nearest 15 minutes. Bob clocked in at 8:04 am and clocked out at 4:57 pm. The timesheet would show that Bob clocked in at 8:00 am and clocked out at 5:00 pm. You can see where the time was rounded by hovering your mouse over the time value on the timecard (see photo below).

There are a few things to note about how the feature works.

  • The feature uses a concept called "nearest rounding". So it will round to the nearest five or fifteen-minute increment (i.e. :00, :15, :30, :45). 50% and up rounds up and 49% and down rounds down.

  • When an administrator makes an edit to a time, it will not be rounded and the exact time entered will be used. Also, any time added by an administrator using "Add Time" will not be rounded.

  • The feature is non-destructive to the original exact (to the minute) time data and acts as a filter for display and reporting purposes. So you can turn it on or off at any time to restore the original non-rounded times.

Turning the feature on or off at any moment in time will cause all times both in the future and past to be displayed per the chosen setting.
