How to Enable Manual Payroll in QuickBooks Desktop
To fully integrate ClockShark with QuickBooks you must have payroll activated, here's how to enable it manually!
To fully integrate QuickBooks Desktop (QBD) with ClockShark, you need to have payroll in QBD enabled. You can either subscribe to the payroll from Intuit or use QBD’s free Manual Payroll option. This guide will show you how to enable manual payroll in your QBD, so it can integrate with ClockShark.
To set up manual payroll:
- In QuickBooks, go to Edit > Preferences > Payroll & Employees > Company Preferences > Full payroll with Manual Payroll selected, and click OK to enable manual payroll.
- Go to Employees > Employee Center, and get ready to create a payroll item.
- Note: In order for ClockShark to complete the integration with QuickBooks and send time over from ClockShark, you need at least one payroll item.
- Double-click an existing employee or add a new employee, and click the Payroll Info tab.

In the EARNINGS section, click a line and select Add New.

- Create a placeholder that will let ClockShark see that there is a payroll item setup. For example, we chose the options of Hourly Wages > Regular Pay, and named it "ClockShark Default" with a rate of $0.00.
- Ensure each employee has the Use time data to create paychecks option enabled.

- Continue with the ClockShark integration—you will see ClockShark Default come up in the last step as an option.
