You can set up overtime rules for your company by navigating to Admin > Company Settings > Payroll and Overtime tab.

Setting up overtime rules is recommended, but optional.

OT rule options include:

  • Weekly Overtime

  • Daily Overtime

  • Daily Doubletime

  • Saturday Overtime Options

  • Sunday Overtime Options

  • California 7th Day Overtime Rules

Single Overtime Setting

If you're on the Basic or Standard Plan, you can set the OT rules you want to apply to all users in your company.

Multiple Overtime Settings

If you're on the Pro Plan you can set up multiple OT rules and apply these to different sets of employees. If you had OT rules from a previous plan level, those will still be available here.

You can create new OT Rules by pressing the + Rules button. That will pop up a dialogue for you to input the criteria for the rules.

Hitting Next will allow you to assign employees to the OT Rule. You can assign all employees, select entire departments/locations, or pick and choose individual employees. You can choose to hide employees that are already assigned to a set of OT Rules or show everyone. If you do choose an employee that is already assigned to an OT Rule, you can switch them but you will see a warning letting you know.

Once back on the Overtime Settings page, you can create more rules, add employees to existing rules, optionally set a rule as a default, and more. If you assign a rule as a default this will be the OT rule automatically assigned to all newly created employees. This includes employees that are manually created, bulk imported, or created via an integration.

If you click on a rule from the Overtime page, you can view more information about how overtime is set up for the rule and which employees are assigned to the rule. You can filter the employees here or remove them from the rule if needed.

Overtime rules can also be assigned to an employee from the Employee Details page when editing or creating an employee. So if you are creating a salaried employee, but your default OT Rule is hourly you can assign the employee into your Salary OT Rule as you create them.

Note: Turning the OT rules on or off or changing the rules will cause all Pay Periods both in the future and past to be displayed per the chosen setting.
